Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery (Contract)

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with Labor and Delivery experience to manage, organize, and administer nursing care for patients of all ages under physician supervision. Compliance with federal, state, and local laws and facility policies is required.

Essential Functions

• Assess physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients of all ages.
• Report and document symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition.
• Use the nursing process to direct and deliver patient care; develop, implement, revise, and evaluate care plans.
• Administer medications following the "Five Rights of Medication Administration."
• Provide education to patients and families appropriate to age and learning abilities.
• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
• Organize and prioritize daily assignments for optimal patient care.
• Demonstrate annual competency in assigned work areas.
• Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
• Comply with facility Code of Conduct.

Charge Nurse Responsibilities (if applicable):

• Assign staff based on patient needs and staff skill levels.
• Coach staff on problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Lead or participate in performance improvement initiatives.
• Recognize and respond immediately to life-threatening patient situations.
• Foster cooperative relationships with physicians, departments, and staff.

Physical Demands

• Frequent use of hands and arms; talking and hearing required.
• Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing.
• Frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting/moving over 100 pounds.
• Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Work Environment

• Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock risk.
• Occasional exposure to explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
• Moderate noise level.
• Classified as risk level I for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

Required Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.), Associate Degree in Nursing (A.D.N.), or Nursing Diploma from an accredited institution.

Required Certifications

• Registered Nurse license in Nebraska.
• Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification (required for Obstetrics Department assignments).

Additional Competencies

• ACLS, BLS/BCLS, PALS, NRP certifications preferred.
