FULL-TIME NIGHTS
The Medical Lab Tech II processes and tests all types of laboratory specimens for all age groups from neonates to geriatric patients; reviews and reports lab results; performs operational duties, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Has advanced clinical and operational responsibilities in the department. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
General Functions:
- Processes and tests specimens for clinical studies to include the performance of complex testing.
- Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data
- Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of laboratory information system
- Processes blood and other body fluids.
- Performs operation and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and equipment to include
- advanced troubleshooting.
- Acts as a resource to other laboratory personnel.
- Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity as necessary
- Performs basic clerical functions
- Assists in creating procedures and in document control
- Assists in teaching employees or students to include competency assessment.
- Relays, orders, takes inventory and stocks supplies
- Billing management as necessary
- Assists in equipment selection, validation and implementation
- Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment
- Addresses patient population-specific needs
- Participates in Quality and Performance Improvement activities
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Associate degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an accredited school of medical laboratory technicians, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR 493.1489. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR 493.1489, Jan. 24, 2003
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years as a medical laboratory technician.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Registered in accordance with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or equivalent). Licensure, as required by State law. Once certified, no annual renewals are required.
