Description
Up to $10,000 Sign-On bonus for experienced Registered Nurse / RN
Under minimal supervision, provides nursing care for a group of patients assigned to the nurse based on matching the patients’ needs with the nurse’ competencies. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
General Functions:
- Assesses human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of the patient, family and/or significant other
- Institutes and initiates a plan for patient care based on the initial assessment; implements and continuously evaluates interventions; reassesses patient needs on an on-going basis.
- Recognizes changing patient condition and utilizes unit resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) in a timely and appropriate manner
- Documents all plans and care provided
- Identifies need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provides education through individualized instruction, the use of written materials and/or other available resources
- Assigns nursing care to licensed staff, delegates nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinates the flow of work
- Calculates and administers medications
- Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management of patient care
- Participates in discharge planning; provides instruction to patient/family
- Maintains and promotes professional standards and development by participating in inservices, committees, staff meetings
- Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to Studer Principles and “must haves”
- Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively managing patient admissions, discharges and transfers • Manages patient hand-offs at shift change and between department and facilities; utilizes documentation tools for hand-offs as required
- Provides every patient the defined standard of care (ie; core measures, chest pain protocol)
- Utilized resources efficiently and effectively
- Maintains safe environment • Addresses patient population—specific needs (clinical)
- Participates in Performance Improvement Activities
MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two years in acute care. Previous clinical nursing experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE : Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR):
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) - Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
- Departments where required - Couplet Care, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, OB ED
- AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period.
- Departments where required - Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, OB ED
- AHA Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) - AHA NRP must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period.
- Departments where required - Labor & Delivery , Antepartum, OB ED, Couplet Care, Gynecology units where caring for Couplet Care patients
Fetal Heart Monitoring
If Novice or New to Service Line RN: (FIRST TIME TAKING COURSES)
- Intro to Fetal Monitoring (Basic FM) within 30 DOH
- AWHONN Intermediate FM within 9 months of hire, ensuring they have already completed Basic FM
- AWHONN Advanced FM within 9 months of completion of Intermediate FM
If Experienced to L&D:
- AWHONN Intermediate FM
- Upon hire, must show evidence of successful completion of AWHONN Intermediate FM within the past 2 years
- If no completion in the past 2 yrs, must complete AWHONN Intermediate FM within 6 months
- AWHONN Advanced FM (AFM)
- If has current AWHONN completion- renew by recommended renewal date
- If completed AWHONN Intermediate FM in the past 2 years, must complete AWHONN AFM within 9 months of hire.
- If obtained AWHONN Intermediate FM after hire, AWHONN AFM must be completed within 9 months of Intermediate FM completion
- S.T.A.B.L.E. - Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit (Renewal only required for Maternal Transport Team
- Departments where required - Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, OB ED, Couplet Care units at facilities that do not have a Level 3 or Level 4 NICU
- AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA PALS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role
