Description
🌺 Travel Respiratory Therapist | Hilo, HI | Hilo Benioff Medical Center 🌺
HBMC is a 211-bed regional referral center and Level III Trauma Center. Unlike the more tourist-heavy side of the island (Kona), Hilo provides a deep-dive into local Hawaiian culture and some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Pacific, including proximity to Volcanoes National Park.
✨ Financial Breakdown (Weekly)
Taxable Pay: $1,260.00
Non-Taxable Stipends: $1,246.00
Total Gross Weekly: $2,506.00
✨ Assignment Overview
📅 Duration: 15 Weeks | Start Date: 04/06/2026
☀️ Shift: Days (06:30 – 19:00)
⚖️ Guaranteed Hours: No guarantee of hours (While common for HI state-run facilities, it's worth asking your agency if they offer a subsidy).
📍 Location: Hilo, HI (The Big Island)
🩺 Role Highlights
Acuity Mastery: Manage complex respiratory care for a diverse population, including Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal patients.
Life Support: Provide continuous airway management, ventilator support (PB 980, PB 840), and non-invasive support (V60).
Emergency Response: Act as a critical consultant for physicians during CPR and high-stakes transport (using Para Pac transport vents).
Tech Stack: Utilize computerized charting and Pyxis for medication management.
📋 Mandatory Requirements
Licensure: Active Hawaii State Respiratory Therapist License required by the start date.
Credentials: RRT (highly preferred), BLS, ACLS, and PALS are mandatory. NRP is highly preferred for neonatal coverage.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience.
Note: This facility does not accept first-time travelers.
🌴 The Hilo Experience
Hilo is the "Rainy Side" of the island, which translates to a lush, green paradise filled with waterfalls and tropical botanical gardens.
Licensing Pro-Tip: Hawaii licensure can be slow (taking 4–8 weeks). If you apply now for the 4/6 start, the facility is willing to review your file if your application is already submitted.
Housing: Hilo is more affordable than Maui or Oahu. Look for "Traveler-Preferred" housing in Hilo or Kea'au. Your $1,246 weekly stipend is robust enough to cover a private furnished rental (avg. $2,200/month) and still leave you with significant tax-free savings.
Culture: HBMC has a unique "Family-Centered" (Ohana) culture. While permanent staff are known for their teamwork, they value travelers who show humbleness and a willingness to learn local clinical nuances.
