Description
- Provide specialized instruction to students who are deaf or hard of hearing, individually and in small groups.
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for assigned students.
- Conduct assessments and track student progress on academic and communication goals.
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to adapt curriculum and provide necessary accommodations.
- Support the use and integration of assistive listening devices, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and educational technology.
- Foster language, communication, and self-advocacy skills in students.
- Participate in ARD/IEP and multidisciplinary team meetings to support student needs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and concerns.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district special education laws and requirements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and valid Texas teaching certification.
- Certification as a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) or equivalent Texas credentials.
- Knowledge of special education laws, IEP processes, and instructional strategies for students with hearing loss.
- Proficiency in sign language (ASL) preferred, based on student needs.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to educational equity and student success.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience teaching DHH students in a school setting.
- Familiarity with inclusive classroom practices and assistive technology.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and families.
