Description
ESS Clinical is currently seeking a dedicated and passionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support students within Washington Elementary School District (WESD) in Phoenix, Arizona for the 2026–2027 school year.
W2 Contracts starting at $57/hr
The Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) provides direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments across educational settings. The TVI collaborates with general education teachers, special education staff, related service providers, families, and administrators to ensure students receive appropriate accommodations, modifications, and specialized instruction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairments in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Conduct functional vision assessments and learning media assessments as appropriate
- Develop and implement instructional strategies tailored to each student's visual needs
- Teach compensatory skills, including:
- Braille reading and writing
- Assistive technology
- Sensory efficiency skills
- Organization and study skills
- Independent living skills
- Adapt instructional materials into accessible formats, including Braille, large print, tactile graphics, and digital formats
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and classroom environments
- Participate in IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions
- Maintain accurate student records, progress monitoring data, and required documentation
- Consult with families regarding educational programming and student progress
- Assist in evaluating and recommending assistive technology and specialized equipment
- Support student access to educational, social, and extracurricular activities
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and district special education regulations
Required Qualifications
Arizona Certification Requirements
Candidates must possess or be eligible to obtain:
- Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate issued by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE)
AND
- Arizona Teacher of Students with Visual Impairments (TVI) Endorsement
- Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (or ability to obtain)
OR
- Special Education Certificate with Teacher of the Visually Impaired specialization recognized by the Arizona Department of Education
