Description

ESS Clinical is seeking a dedicated and compassionate PART TIME Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to join our team serving Carlsbad Municipal Schools in Carlsbad, New Mexico

PAY $64/hr W2 or $71/hr 1099!

As an Orientation & Mobility Specialist, you will collaborate with teachers, families, administrators, and related service providers to develop individualized mobility programs that promote independence and support students' educational success.

Position Responsibilities

  • Conduct orientation and mobility evaluations for students with visual impairments.
  • Develop and implement individualized Orientation & Mobility programs aligned with students' IEP goals.
  • Provide direct instruction in safe and independent travel skills, including indoor and outdoor navigation.
  • Teach the use of mobility aids, including long canes and other adaptive equipment, when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), special education staff, administrators, and families to support student success.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and provide recommendations related to orientation and mobility services.
  • Complete required documentation, progress reports, and service logs in a timely manner.
  • Promote student independence, self-advocacy, and confidence in a variety of educational and community settings.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, district, and ESS Clinical policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility, Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents who are blind or visually impaired is preferred.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, IEP development, and best practices for students with visual impairments.

Required Licensure & Certifications

Applicants must possess or be eligible to obtain:

  • Certification as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist through the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation & Education Professionals (ACVREP).
  • Active New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) Orientation & Mobility Specialist License or other required instructional support licensure, or eligibility to obtain prior to employment.
  • Successful completion of all required state and district background checks and fingerprinting before employment.
