Description

ESS Clinical is seeking a qualified Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services to students within Durham Public Schools during the 2026–2027 school year.

The Occupational Therapist will evaluate students' functional needs, provide therapeutic interventions, develop and implement appropriate treatment plans, document services, and collaborate with students, families, teachers, Exceptional Children staff, administrators, and other members of the student's educational team.

Pay starting at $50/hr up to $56/hr
W-2 and 1099 contract opportunities

Required Licensure & Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted North Carolina Occupational Therapist (OT) license in good standing.
  • Must be licensed by the North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy (NCBOT) before beginning practice in North Carolina.
  • Successful completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy educational program, including required fieldwork.
  • Successful completion of the NBCOT examination.
  • Successful completion of the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Board jurisprudence examination.
  • Must meet North Carolina Board of Occupational Therapy requirements for initial or continued licensure.
  • Current professional liability coverage, if required by ESS Clinical or the assignment.
  • Successful completion of ESS Clinical credentialing and onboarding.
  • Successful background check and any required school/district screening.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification if required by ESS Clinical or the specific assignment.
  • Ability to provide occupational therapy services within the scope of the North Carolina OT license.
  • Ability to maintain confidential student information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, and other healthcare/educational professionals.

NC Board requirements state that an OT must have graduated from an accredited curriculum, completed the required fieldwork, passed the NBCOT examination, and passed the NC jurisprudence examination. A valid NC license must be issued before practice begins.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct occupational therapy evaluations and assessments.
  • Identify students' functional, developmental, sensory, motor, and educational needs.
  • Develop appropriate occupational therapy goals and intervention plans.
  • Provide individual and/or group occupational therapy services.
  • Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Address fine-motor, gross-motor, visual-motor, sensory-processing, self-care, and functional skills as appropriate.
  • Support students' participation and independence in the educational environment.
  • Provide recommendations for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, positioning, and environmental modifications when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with teachers and Exceptional Children staff.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and educational planning when required.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff and caregivers as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress and modify interventions as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of evaluations, treatments, progress, and other required services.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information.
  • Follow Durham Public Schools policies, ESS Clinical procedures, and applicable federal and North Carolina requirements.
  • Perform other OT duties within the scope of practice as assigned.
