Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique, maintains asepsis, anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff. As an LPN/OR Technician, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, meticulously ensuring all surgical instruments are sterile and readily available, and providing essential assistance to surgeons and nurses throughout various procedures. Your contributions directly support optimal patient outcomes and the smooth operation of the surgical suite

• Maintains medical records in accordance with policies and procedures.

• Coordinates communications to nurses from patients, family, physicians and other health care team members.

• Transcribes physician orders when necessary (if CPOE is not used).

• Performs medical record and name band data entry, auditing, and maintenance as assigned.

• Reconciles physician orders for consultations in electronic medical record (EMR)

• Completes all admission, discharge, and transfer clerical functions.

• Obtains and maintains supplies for patient care and unit functioning.

• Obtains required continuing education credits and completes all mandatory requirements.

• Complies with organizational and departmental ergonomic & safety principles while performing all work related activities.

• Demonstrates flexibility with work schedule.

• Shares in the responsibility for effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, supplies and services.

• Coordinates consult visits for residents, including transportation as needed.

• Coordinates work orders and repairs on unit and common areas as needed.

Education/Experience

Minimum Required:

• Graduate of an accredited school of Practical Nursing.

Preferred:

• Previous clinical experience in a hospital setting.

• Previous Operating Room experience.

License/Certification

Minimum Required:

• Current New York State Practical Nurse License.

• CPR Certification required within 3 months of hire.

• CPR Certification within 3 months of hire.

Work Environment

• Work is performed in an office environment and patient care areas in which require working in proximity to other employees and patients. Rooms are air conditioned and heated.

• Frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting.

• Fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.

• Exposure to equipment cleaning solutions and disinfectants.

• PPE (Eyewear, Masks, Face shields, Shoe covers, and Gloves) as required by UHS Hospitals Infection Control policies.
