Job ResponsibilitiesReview patient medical records to confirm and interpret sleep study orders, ensuring alignment with clinical indications and appropriate study protocols
Explain the sleep study process, including setup and monitoring procedures, to patients and caregivers; answer questions to promote comfort and cooperation
Prepare and apply electrodes, sensors, and other monitoring equipment following AASM guidelines and organizational protocols
Initiate and perform overnight polysomnographic recordings, including diagnostic, titration, and split-night studies, in compliance with policy and AASM standards
Continuously observe and analyze sleep stages, breathing patterns, cardiac activity, limb movements, and other physiological data; intervene as needed
Administer CPAP, BiPAP, or other respiratory therapies during titration or split-night studies according to physician orders and patient response
Document observations, interventions, and patient behaviors during the study in real time; ensure all data is recorded accurately
Wake the patient upon study completion, remove all sensors and electrodes, and assist with post-study hygiene and comfort as needed
Score collected data using AASM scoring manual guidelines, prioritizing accuracy and timeliness
Participate in monthly inter-scorer reliability activities to ensure consistency and accuracy in scoring
Notify the Medical Director, Clinical Manager, or Physician Assistant of any significant or adverse changes in the patient’s condition during the study
Assist in the orientation and training of new technicians by demonstrating procedures and sharing knowledge
Minimum Required:
Associates Degree or Certification from an Accredited School in Polysomnography or Respiratory Therapy.
NY State License: Registered Polysomnographic Technician OR Respiratory Therapist
Receive CPR within one (1) week of start date.
Preferred:
Previous experience in Sleep Medicine.
