Purpose of Position

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist is responsible for providing quality care in a Cath Lab environment, ensuring a positive interpersonal experience for patients. Performs interventional procedures by applying ionizing radiation in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards under the direction of physicians.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assist physicians in all aspects of invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance with policy and procedure.

Operate interventional and other equipment/devices as appropriate during diagnostic interventional procedures.

Address physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort. Provide explanations and answer patient questions to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.

Transfer patients onto medical equipment, wheelchairs, and stretchers.

Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity.

Set up sterile trays, clean and dispose of materials post-procedure.

Participate in activities that promote professional self-growth and development.

Assist in the administration of contrast media.

Maintain inventory for the department.

Responsible for all aspects of the Electrophysiology (EP) program (applies to EP Tech).

Stay current on new developments in EP (applies to EP Tech).

Oversee preventative maintenance of interventional equipment, perform routine safety checks and inspections to ensure equipment is in good order and ready for use.

Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.

Education/Experience/Training

Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist II

Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:
Associate's degree or higher in Cardiovascular Technology
Associate's degree or higher with a minimum of 3 years recent experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (IABP)
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)

Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist EP

Five years recent experience in Cardiovascular EP OR any two of the following:
Cardiac Interventional certification (CI)
Vascular Interventional certification (VI)
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification (RCIS)
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (IABP)

Special Procedures Tech 1

Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
High school graduate or GED.
Minimum of two years post-technical school radiology experience or six months recent experience as a Special Procedures Technologist.
Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
Registered by the ARRT.
Licensed by the State of Massachusetts as a Radiologic Technologist.
Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Challenge Exam or course within twelve months of accepting the position.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Intra-aortic Balloon Pump Course (IABP)

Special Procedures Tech 2

All qualifications of Tech I.
Required certifications or experience:
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification (RCIS)
Cardiac Interventional certification (CI)
Vascular Interventional certification (VI)
Three years recent experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology.

Special Procedures Tech 3

All qualifications of Tech I.
Five years recent experience in Cardiovascular EP OR any two of:
Cardiac Interventional certification (CI)
Vascular Interventional certification (VI)
Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification (RCIS)
Completion of EP training program.
