Purpose of Position

To organize and conduct medically prescribed treatment programs for adult and pediatric patients to help restore function and prevent disability according to the principles and practices of physical therapy.

Description

• Evaluate new patients, set objective measurable treatment goals for functional outcomes, establish appropriate treatment programs, and provide documentation.
• Administer diagnostic muscle, nerve, joint, and functional ability tests to determine the extent of the patient's impairment and prognosis for improvement.
• Carry out appropriate treatment modalities and re-evaluate the patient as needed, modifying the treatment plan based on patient progress.
• Provide analytic documentation of patient care, patient/family education, and communication with other caregivers.
• Communicate effectively with medical/allied health personnel about patient progress, needs, and discharge planning.
• Provide instruction in therapeutic procedures to be continued by patient and family.
• Assist in training new personnel as requested by the manager.
• Provide guidance and direction to Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, and affiliating students.
• Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, quality assessment programs, and safety standards.
• Attend meetings as required.
• Enhance professional growth and development through participation in education programs, literature, meetings, and workshops.
• Maintain daily statistical records of patient activity and charges.
• Perform other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Training:

• Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited Physical Therapy Program.
• Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current BLS certification.

For PT Clinical Specialists, additional qualifications include:

• Serve as a clinical resource for rehabilitation staff in a focused area of clinical expertise; plan and conduct treatment programs for patients.
• Assist management in the planning, development, organization, and supervision of the specified clinical specialty area.
• Documentation of Specialist Certification.
