Description

Purpose of Position:

The Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist is responsible for quality care in a Cath Lab environment and creating a positive interpersonal experience for the patient. Performs interventional procedures by applying ionizing radiation to patients in a manner consistent with prescribed radiation protection safety standards under the direction of Physicians.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Physicians in all aspects of invasive procedures, including scrubbing, circulating, monitoring, and recording hemodynamic parameters in accordance with policy and procedure.
  • Assist in diagnostic interventional procedures, operating interventional and other equipment/devices as appropriate.
  • Address physical and psychological needs of patients during examinations and procedures to ensure safety and comfort. Provide explanations of procedures and answer patients' questions to reduce anxieties and obtain cooperation.
  • Transfer patients onto medical equipment, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
  • Coordinate work to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Set up sterile trays, clean and dispose of materials after procedures.
  • Participate in activities that promote professional self-growth and development.
  • Assist the physician with the administration of contrast media.
  • Maintain inventory for the department.
  • Oversee all aspects of Electrophysiology (EP) programs.
  • Stay current on new developments in EP.
  • Responsible for preventative maintenance of interventional equipment, including cleaning and performing routine safety checks and inspections to ensure equipment is in good order and ready for use.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Education/Experience/Training:

    Job Code 8150:

    • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • High school graduate or GED.
    • Minimum of two years post-technical school radiology experience or six months recent experience as a Special Procedures Technologist.
    • Graduate of a JRCERT accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
    • Registered by the ARRT.
    • Licensed by the State of Massachusetts as a Radiologic Technologist.
    • Current BLS certification required.
    • ACLS and IABP required within six months of employment.
    • Successful passage of Basic Arrhythmia Challenge Exam or Basic Arrhythmia course within twelve months of accepting the position.

    Job Code 8151 & 8152:

    • All qualifications of Tech I.
    • Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification (RCIS) or Cardiac Interventional certification (CI) or Vascular Interventional certification (VI), or three years recent experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology.
    • Completion of EP training program.

    • All qualifications of Tech I.
    • Five years of recent experience in Cardiovascular EP, or any two of the following qualifications: Cardiac Interventional certification (CI), Vascular Interventional certification (VI), Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification (RCIS), Completion of EP training program.
