Role Purpose

To organize and conduct medically prescribed treatment programs for adult and pediatric patients to help restore function and prevent disability according to the principles and practices of physical therapy.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate new patients and set objective, measurable treatment goals for functional outcomes.
• Establish appropriate treatment programs and document them.
• Administer diagnostic muscle, nerve, joint, and functional ability tests to assess patient impairments.
• Carry out appropriate treatment modalities, re-evaluating and modifying treatment plans as needed.
• Provide objective, analytic documentation of care and communication with caregivers.
• Communicate effectively with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient needs and discharge planning.
• Provide instruction in therapeutic procedures for patients and families.
• Assist in training new personnel as requested.
• Provide guidance and direction to Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, and affiliating students.
• Maintain departmental policies, procedures, quality assessment programs, and safety standards.
• Attend required meetings.
• Engage in professional growth through education programs, literature, and workshops.
• Maintain daily statistical records of patient activity and charges.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited Physical Therapy Program.
• Licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

• Serve as a clinical resource for rehabilitation staff in a specialized area of clinical expertise.
• Plan and conduct treatment programs for patients in a specified clinical specialty area.
• Assist management in planning, development, organization, and supervision within the specialty area.
• Documentation of Specialist Certification.
