Unit Name: Medical Telemetry Unit

Brief Unit Description:
The unit is a 37-bed medical telemetry unit. Patients may be admitted from the emergency department, transferred from other units, or directly admitted by a physician. Patients are often on Cardizem drips, Nitroglycerin drips, Lasix drips, and Heparin drips. The unit also cares for patients with non-ST elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI), post-pacemaker, and post-cardiac catheterization, with or without interventions.

Patient Population:
The primary diagnoses include CHF, atrial fibrillation, pulmonary embolism, and pneumonia. Patients may also present with ethanol-related issues and dementia with cardiac co-morbidities. Occasionally, surgical patients are also treated.

2 years

Floating Required:
Travelers are required to float to applicable units when needed.

Rotating Shifts Required:
Day rotators may be rotated between 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., 11 a.m. - 11 p.m., or 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. when needed. Rotation frequency is usually low. Night positions do not rotate.

Skill Sets Required:
Travelers should have knowledge of cardiac drips and be able to interpret tele strips. Experience in caring for patients post cardiac catheterization and with pacemakers is desirable but not mandatory.

Clinician to Patient Ratio:
- Day and evening shifts: 1:4 with a maximum of 5 patients - Night shift: 1:5-6 - Day shift on weekdays includes a Charge RN without a patient assignment

Bed Count:
37 beds, including 10 semi-private rooms, 1 quadruple room, 1 triple room, 10 private rooms, and 1 negative pressure room.
