Description
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to provide expert OB/GYN healthcare services to patients at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth (NMCP). The NPs will conduct physical exams, take health histories, provide prenatal and postnatal care, prescribe medications, order diagnostic tests, and provide education and support on women’s health issues. This role involves close collaboration with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff in a team-based environment focused on women’s reproductive health.
General Duties:
Provide services within the scope of privileges granted by the MTF
Fulfill tasks as defined by the contract and PWS
Maintain documentation, follow safety protocols, and uphold standards of care
Specific Duties:
Conduct detailed health assessments and medical histories
Provide comprehensive prenatal and gynecological care
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic gynecologic conditions
Order and interpret lab results, imaging, and diagnostic tests
Educate patients on health maintenance and disease prevention
Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians on patient management
Participate in performance improvement and peer review processes
Document care in MHS Genesis and other electronic health systems
Provide clinical guidance to support personnel (e.g., corpsmen or students)
Qualifications:
Degree:
Master’s degree in nursing
Education:
Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (ACEN or CCNE)
Certification:
Certified Nurse Practitioner (Women's Health or related certification preferred)
Experience:
Recent experience providing OB/GYN or women's health care
Licensure:
Current, active, unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in any U.S. state or territory
Skills and Abilities:
Expertise in women’s health, including prenatal and postpartum care
Ability to perform assessments and manage gynecological conditions
Competency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems
Strong communication and patient education skills
Team-oriented mindset with adaptability for military clinical settings

Schedule:
Services provided Saturday through Sunday, 0600–2000
Shifts range from 8.5 to 12 hours, not exceeding 90 hours per 2-week period
Must be available to work more than 40 hours per week
Work Environment:
Clinical setting at a military hospital
Outpatient OB/GYN department
Fast-paced, collaborative, structured according to military health systems
Immunization Requirements:
Hepatitis B, Varicella, MMR, TDAP, Seasonal Influenza, Tuberculosis screening
Must complete NAVMED 6260/91 or DHA-approved health screening
Security Requirement:
Must pass a background check and credentialing (up to 90 days processing)
