Description
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking a skilled Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) to provide outpatient OB/GYN care at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. The CNM will see patients for prenatal visits, postpartum assessments, gynecological exams, family planning consultations, and women’s health screenings. This role is focused strictly on outpatient services, with no labor or delivery coverage, and involves close collaboration with OB/GYN physicians, nurses, and support staff.
General Duties:
Provide services under the scope of practice as a certified nurse midwife
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary OB/GYN healthcare team
Document all patient care using electronic health record systems
Participate in performance improvement and continuing education programs
Maintain infection control, confidentiality, and patient safety protocols
Specific Duties:
Perform comprehensive health assessments and physical exams
Provide routine prenatal and postpartum care
Conduct gynecological exams (pap smears, breast exams, etc.)
Educate patients on reproductive health, contraception, and preventive care
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and labs
Prescribe medications in accordance with state scope of practice
Refer patients to OB/GYN physicians or specialists when necessary
Counsel patients and families on birth control, pregnancy, and women’s health
Float to other OB/GYN outpatient services as needed
Qualifications:
Degree:
Master’s degree or higher in nursing or midwifery
Education:
Graduate from a CNM program accredited by ACME or similar body
Certification:
Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) credential from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
Basic Life Support (BLS) required
Experience:
Minimum one year of recent CNM or women’s health experience in an outpatient OB/GYN setting
Licensure:
Current, unrestricted RN license and Nurse Midwife license valid in any U.S. state or territory
Skills and Abilities:
Proficient in conducting prenatal and gynecological exams
Strong knowledge of contraception, family planning, and postpartum care
Confident in independently managing routine OB/GYN cases
Effective communicator with patients and healthcare teams
Skilled in using EHR systems such as MHS Genesis

Services shall be provided Sunday through Saturday between 0600 and 0600
Can work Up to 40 hours per week
Work Environment:
Clinic-based OB/GYN care at NMCP
Collaborative team setting with physicians, nurses, and support staff
May float between different outpatient women’s health areas as needed
Immunization Requirement:
Required vaccinations: MMR, Varicella, Hep B, TDAP, Flu
TB screening required
Must complete NAVMED 6260/91 or DHA equivalent
Security Requirement:
Must pass background investigation and credentialing
Onboarding may take up to 90 days
