Description
AIMS Locum Tenens is seeking experienced Cardiovascular Technicians to join the invasive cardiology team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. These technicians will assist with diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures in the Cath Lab, ensuring accurate monitoring, sterile preparation, and post-procedure care. This role involves scrubbing in for procedures, monitoring cardiac activity, operating imaging and physiological equipment, and participating in 24/7 STEMI and interventional radiology on-call rotations.
General Duties:
Collaborate with healthcare teams during cardiac and vascular procedures.
Maintain equipment, prepare supplies, and ensure procedural readiness.
Operate imaging software (e.g., MacLab, McKesson Change Healthcare).
Participate in emergency cardiac care and post-procedure monitoring.
Specific Duties:
Scrub, circulate, and operate imaging equipment during Cath Lab procedures.
Perform patient assessments, review medical history, and collect vital signs.
Initiate IVs, administer medications under supervision, including sedation and emergency drugs.
Prep patients using sterile technique and assist in hemostasis post-procedure.
Operate and interpret monitoring systems, ECGs, pressure waveforms, and contrast injectors.
Assist in pacemaker/ICD placements, stent deployments, catheterizations, ablations, and angioplasty.
Respond to cardiac emergencies using ACLS protocols and support defibrillation/resuscitation efforts.
Set up and operate devices such as intra-aortic balloon pumps, temporary pacemakers, and AngioJet systems.
Maintain logs, quality control, and inventory levels; restock and return used equipment to sterile processing.
Support transport of patients, including those on advanced life support equipment.
Train new staff, participate in unit training, and complete required checklists for readiness.
Participate in 24/7 on-call rotations for STEMI and interventional radiology cases.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must have completed an accredited Cardiovascular Technician training program (civilian or military).
Certification:
ACLS certification is required.
RCIS or ARRT certification is strongly encouraged.
Licensure:
Preferred: Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS), American Registry of Radiology Technicians (ARRT), or RCES.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) year of post-training experience in a cardiac catheterization lab.
Must be proficient in diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
Citizenship:
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Skills and Abilities:
Strong understanding of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and interventions.
Ability to recognize and respond to abnormal rhythms, cardiac ischemia, and emergency situations.
Proficiency in medical equipment, including pressure transducers, C-arm imaging, and contrast injectors.
Knowledge of sterile technique and procedural protocols.
Clear communication and teamwork in high-stress medical situations.
Strong computer literacy with cardiovascular procedural software and EMRs.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday
Between 0700 and 1600 hours
8-hour shifts within that window
On call - Pager pay separately
Call back hours get paid 1.5 times regular pay
Work Environment:
Invasive Cardiology Lab (Cath Lab) at WRNMMC
Sterile surgical environment with direct patient care
Emergency readiness required
Immunization Requirement:
Must comply with WRNMMC immunization requirements for patient-facing roles.
Security Requirement:
Must pass federal background checks and complete credentialing through WRNMMC.
