Description
• Managing the care of students with chronic medical conditions (like asthma, diabetes, anaphylaxis, epilepsy) by developing individualized healthcare plans and monitoring their needs.
• Monitoring students with complex health needs, coordinating care with outside healthcare providers, and advocating for their needs.
• Performing prescribed medical procedures required to manage chronic medical conditions (blood sugar testing and insulin dosing, gastric tube feedings, urinary catheterizations, ostomy care, thickening liquids).
• Developing and implementing individualized health plans (IHP)s and 504 plans for students with chronic health conditions.
Health assessments and screenings:
• Conducting state mandated screenings, such as vision and hearing screenings.
• Basic assessment of student injuries and illnesses to determine student’s ability to return to classroom or need to go home.
Emergency care:
• Providing first aid and emergency care during school hours, including CPR/AED.
• Administering emergency medications according to provider orders as written in student’s emergency care plans and performing required follow up care.
• Administering emergency medications according to standing orders (Narcan and epinephrine) and performing required follow up care.
Immunization Compliance:
• Monitoring student immunization records to ensure compliance with state laws.
• Documenting student immunization records into electronic student health database.
• Notifying school staff and parents of noncompliance with immunization state laws.
Medication administration:
• Safely storing and dispensing prescription and over-the-counter medications according to provider orders, in accordance with policies and protocols.
• Maintaining accurate inventory of medication on site.
Documentation:
• Daily documentation of the care provided to students in accordance with State and Organization’s requirements.
• Maintain accurate, confidential student health records, immunization compliance, and student accident reports.
Communication:
• Serves as a liaison between parents, school staff, and community health providers.
