Description
The Patient Safety Manager will have primary oversight of the facility-wide patient safety program. This leadership role will direct others within the facility towards process improvements to support the reduction of medical/health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. This practitioner provides leadership for safety assessments, coordinates the activities of the patient safety function or committee, educates other practitioners on the system-based cause for medical errors, consults with management and staff, and communicates literature-based ideas regarding effective patient safety strategies to others within the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Investigates patient safety issues within the organization; leads or facilitates Root Cause Analysis, Focused Reviews, and Intense Analysis; Ensure timely identification of trends and implementation of corrective and preventive actions. Maintains compliance with audits and monitoring as defined in action plans; Reviews and closes all Safety Events reported in the event reporting system, Verifies all Safety Events are routed to the appropriate department leaders for review; notifies Risk Management of potential risk issues; Lead initiatives focused on high reliability, zero harm, and culture of safety.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Required: Bachelor's degree in a patient care related field.
Experience:
Required: 5+ years of combined experience in clinical practice and progressive healthcare leadership experience
Preferred: 2 years of experience in Patient Safety, Quality, Risk Management, or healthcare operations.
Certification:
Required: CPPS Certification or eligible to take the exam within one year of employment
