Job Description:

Position Purpose:To coordinate and implement an individualized plan of care for each surgical patient using the nursing process, practicing within their scope, standards, policies, values, and mission of the organization.Essential Functions and Basic Duties:Position Specific Performance Expectations:o Plans, implements, and evaluates patient care plans based on patient assessment to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources while functioning as a Day Surgery RN, Intra-Operative RN (Circulating and/or Scrub RN), PACU RN.o Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.o Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.o Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations.o Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.o Effectively delegates patient care to ancillary personnel. May precept student nurses and new hires.o Employs critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.o Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, and take appropriate action.o Adheres to AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) standards, ASPAN (Association of Peri-Anesthesia Nurses) standards and recommended practices and all policies of MRH and Surgical Services department.o Consistently ready and prepared for assigned patients.o Ensures Perioperative Verification is complete (H&P present, informed consent signed, test results present, surgical site identified, etc.) before patient is taken into surgical suite.o Appropriately responds to the patient in an emergency situation demonstrating emergency interventions following Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support algorithms, policies, and procedures.o Gives thorough report of patients preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative condition as indicated to receiving nurse (Intra-Operative, Post Anesthesia Care Unit - PACU, Day Surgery, Medical/Surgical Unit, Special Care Unit, etc.).o Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.o Performs other duties as assigned.Organization Wide Performance Expectations:o Demonstrates 100% commitment to performing according to the CHOICE values of MRH and representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.o Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff and vendors.o Adheres to MRH attire/dress code per policies and procedures.o Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self-motivated; manages activity and time.o Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes.o Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.o Reports to work on time as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes.o Actively participates in departmental and facility performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.o Strives to uphold regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state and federal regulations and policies.o Follows policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and risk management to ensure a safe environment for patients, public, and staff.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:o Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions).o Must be able to legally work in the United States.o Must be able to pass a background check.o Must be able to pass a drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).o Must complete employee health meeting.Required Education/Licensure/Certification:o High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.o Unencumbered RN License Colorado or Compact State.o Basic Life Support (BLS) required within six (6) months of hire.o Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) required within six (6) months of hire.o Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required within one (1) year of hire.o Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred but required for call positions.Experience:o Minimum of two (2) years hospital nursing experience, preferred.o Previous OR experience, preferred.
