Overview

 

Missouri Baptist Medical Center, an acute care hospital in St. Louis County, offers a full continuum of medical and surgical services, including heart care, cancer, women and infants, breast health, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, stroke, therapy, wound and pain management services. The hospital has a 24-hour adult emergency department and cares for pediatric patients at a separate emergency department in collaboration with St. Louis Children’s Hospital. 

 

Missouri Baptist is the first and only hospital in St. Louis County to be named a Magnet® hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). The prestigious designation is the highest credential a health care organization can receive for nursing excellence and quality patient care. This recognition has been accomplished by less than nine percent of hospitals nationwide. Additionally, U.S. News & World Report ranked the hospital #2 in the St. Louis metro area.

 

The physician assistant department at Missouri Baptist Medical Center provides a wide range of services to meet the needs of the patients, medical and nursing staff. The Physician Assistant department is divided into two main disciplines, one being providing acute care services to all of the medical floors and the other providing daily rounding and management of our patients in both the Medical and Surgical Complex Units. All of the care is in coordination and cooperation of the patient¿s attending physician. Coverage is provided 24 hours a day 7 days a week.


Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

Functions as the hospital’s first responder for the evaluation, timely diagnosis, management/treatment as well as triage of rapidly deteriorating, acutely ill patients in the acute coronary care unit, all medical and surgical floors, OB floors, Cardiovascular Unit/Progressive Care Unit, as well as many outpatient areas such as Cancer Center, Interventional Radiology, Breast center.. Additionally, they freeing up the Critical Care Physician to focus on the stabilization and management of ICU patients. The Critical Care PAs also allow for many critical care services to be extended outside of the ICU. This service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

 

Responsibilities

  • Acts as first responder for rapidly deteriorating, acutely ill patients. Provides initial evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, Leads the RRT team on all RRT calls, and performs bedside evaluation of patients experiencing acute medical conditions that may not meet RRT criteria but still need urgent evaluation, diagnosis and treatment.
  • Manages Acute STEMI and Acute Stroke /Acute evaluation of LOC changes
  • Performs specialized clinical procedures for all patient populations.
  • Initiates patient treatment plans, and documents and evaluates patient's progress towards achievement of expected outcomes.
  • Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system.
