Description
Nexus MedPro Staffing is seeking an experienced CT Technologist (ARRT-CT Certified) for a high-paying local contract opportunity supporting the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City, Iowa.
This opportunity is ideal for a skilled CT Technologist with strong diagnostic imaging experience, excellent patient care skills, and the ability to perform high-quality CT examinations in a hospital setting while providing compassionate care to Veterans.

Position Overview
The CT Technologist will perform computed tomography (CT) examinations and related diagnostic imaging procedures for Veterans receiving care at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.
The technologist will be responsible for producing high-quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety, following established imaging protocols, and maintaining accurate documentation in the VA electronic health record.
The position is approximately 95% direct patient care and 5% administrative responsibilities, including quality assurance, quality improvement, patient safety reporting, and staff meetings.
Key Responsibilities
CT Imaging and Diagnostic Procedures
* Perform routine and specialized CT examinations in accordance with physician orders and established imaging protocols.
* Prepare patients for CT procedures, explain examinations, and address patient concerns.
* Verify patient identity, examination orders, and relevant medical history before imaging.
* Position patients appropriately to obtain high-quality diagnostic images.
* Operate CT scanners and associated imaging equipment safely and efficiently.
* Adjust scanning protocols based on patient needs and examination requirements.
* Administer contrast media when authorized and within the technologist's scope of practice and facility protocols.
* Monitor patients during imaging procedures and identify adverse reactions or changes in condition.
* Apply radiation protection principles and minimize unnecessary radiation exposure.
* Review images for technical quality and repeat examinations when clinically necessary.
Patient Care and Safety
* Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to Veterans undergoing diagnostic imaging.
* Assess patient readiness and identify potential contraindications to CT procedures.
* Assist patients with mobility, positioning, and safe transfers.
* Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
* Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and contrast-related complications.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organized imaging environment.
Documentation and Quality Assurance
* Document imaging procedures and patient care in the VA electronic health record.
* Maintain accurate examination records and imaging documentation.
* Participate in equipment quality control and routine safety checks.
* Report equipment malfunctions and patient safety concerns.
* Participate in quality improvement activities, staff meetings, and required training.
* Collaborate with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Schedule and On-Call Requirements
Listed Assignment Shift: 11:00 PM–7:00 AM
The assignment description also identifies daytime clinical hours of Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM, with eight-hour shifts starting between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
The final shift schedule must be confirmed with the facility.
On-call coverage may be required outside regular clinical hours, including evenings, weekends, and federal holidays.
When on call, technologists must:
* Be reachable by telephone within 15 minutes.
* Be able to report onsite within 60 minutes of notification.
* Participate in on-call coverage according to facility scheduling requirements.
Requirements
* Current ARRT(CT) certification — Required.
* Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
* Up-to-date continuing education required to maintain ARRT credentials.
* Experience performing CT examinations in a clinical or hospital setting.
* Knowledge of CT imaging protocols, radiation safety, and patient positioning.
* Ability to recognize and respond to patient safety concerns.
* Competency in electronic medical record documentation.
* Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English fluently.
* Ability to complete VA credentialing and obtain facility approval before beginning work.
* Successful OIG exclusion-list verification.
* Ability to meet applicable on-call response requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
* Previous CT Technologist experience in an acute care or hospital setting.
* Experience performing emergency, inpatient, and outpatient CT examinations.
* Experience with contrast-enhanced CT studies.
* Familiarity with VA healthcare systems and imaging documentation.
* Strong communication, teamwork, and patient care skills.
VA Health and Compliance Requirements
Candidates must be able to provide applicable documentation for:
* Tuberculosis screening (TST or IGRA); chest X-ray if indicated.
* MMR and Varicella immunity.
* Tdap vaccination.
* Annual influenza vaccination or applicable facility-approved alternative.
* Hepatitis B vaccination or immunity documentation.
* Bloodborne pathogen training.
* Other VA credentialing and occupational health requirements.
Required VA privacy, HIPAA, information security, and records management training must be completed before network access is granted.
