Nexus MedPro Staffing is seeking an experienced Inpatient Medical Records Technician / Medical Coder for a contract opportunity supporting the Portland VA Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
Candidates with previous VA experience are strongly preferred.

Position Overview
The Medical Records Technician / Inpatient Medical Coder will support accurate and compliant coding of inpatient medical records for the Portland VA Medical Center.
This role requires experience reviewing inpatient medical records, interpreting clinical documentation, and applying applicable coding guidelines and standards. Candidates with previous Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical coding experience are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
* Review inpatient medical records and clinical documentation
* Accurately assign applicable diagnosis and procedure codes
* Review documentation for completeness and coding accuracy
* Abstract relevant information from patient medical records
* Apply current inpatient coding guidelines and standards
* Maintain accurate and complete coding documentation
* Identify documentation issues that may affect coding accuracy
* Maintain confidentiality of protected health information
* Meet established accuracy, productivity, and quality expectations
* Follow VA policies, procedures, and applicable federal requirements
Requirements
* Inpatient medical coding experience
* Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation
* Knowledge of applicable inpatient diagnosis and procedure coding guidelines
* Strong attention to detail and coding accuracy
* Ability to review and interpret complex medical records
* Ability to meet required productivity and quality standards
* Ability to complete required VA credentialing and background requirements
* Previous VA medical coding experience strongly preferred
Additional certification, experience, productivity, and coding requirements may apply based on the VA solicitation.
