Description
Title: Inpatient Phlebotomist
Location: West Bend, Wisconsin
Contract: 13 weeks
Schedule: mix of 1st and 2nd shift. 1st shift either 0500-1330 or 0530-1400, 2nd shift 1330-2200. Will require weekend rotation of every other weekend. The exact shift may vary from day to day based on needs.
Requirements: 2+ years experience as an Inpatient Phlebotomist
Required Skills & Experience: -Must have In-Patient experience. -Must have high-volume blood draw experience. -6 months of related health care experience including direct patient contact.
Preferred: -ASCP certification.

Job Summary: -Responsible for performing phlebotomy and various technical, non technical, and clerical functions. -Other duties as assigned. -Performs venipuncture collections accurately and efficiently according to laboratory protocols. -Performs capillary collections accurately and efficiently according to laboratory protocols. -Follows proper protocols for Legal Blood alcohol collections. -Determines appropriate specimen requirements using standard collection techniques; evaluates acceptability of specimens collected; follows proper identification through the entire process. -Obtains blood specimens via indwelling lines following universal safety precautions. -Performs limited CLIA waived testing according to laboratory protocols as defined by site assignment. -Utilizes the laboratory information system and electronic medical record efficiently to support laboratory services. -Performs entry and/or release of laboratory orders. -Follows site specific EPIC procedures for registration and/or check in of patients. -Resolves sample ID and/or order problems. -Contacts patients for repeat draws as needed. -Recognizes specimen requirements and performs specimen collection and handling in accordance with verbal and/or written instructions. -Prioritizes specimen collections appropriately. -Responds to blood draw requests in a timely manner as ordered. -Identifies patient and labels samples according to laboratory protocols. -Processes specimens according to individual testing protocol, using extreme caution and control over the identification process. -Prepare specimens for transport to alternate testing laboratory sites. -Performs EKGs, monitoring events, drug screen collection, breath alcohol testing, and spirometery as defined by site assignment. -Sets up cultures as per laboratory protocol as defined by site assignment. -Maintains clean, organized and functional work area. -Stocks supplies as needed. -Monitors expiration dates as applicable. -Assists in training new employees and students in phlebotomy techniques and other assigned duties. -Performs maintenance duties in an accurate and timely manner. -Performs scheduled checklist duties as assigned.
