Job Summary:
The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing Transthoracic echocardiograms, setting up and assisting with Transesophageal Echocardiograms, and, under the direction of a trained echocardiographer, performing exercise and Dobutamine Stress Echocardiograms in accordance with the standards set by the American Society of Echocardiography and Froedtert Hospital. This role involves providing care primarily to an adult population, maintaining equipment, preparing patients, and participating in quality improvement activities. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- One to three years of experience as a cardiac sonographer.
- Proficiency in performing routine and emergency echocardiograms, including 2D, 3D, Doppler, and Transesophageal echocardiograms.
- Ability to provide echocardiography services at various locations, work variable shifts, weekends, and provide emergent call coverage as scheduled.
- Experience operating equipment necessary for optimal diagnostic imaging, including transducers, digital networking systems, and offline analysis systems.
- Ability to recognize basic cardiac pathology and analyze patient medical records for diagnostic procedures.
- Experience preparing preliminary reports for review by a cardiologist and comparing previous studies.
- Ability to clean and sterilize TEE probes, perform TEE probe leakage testing, and maintain a clean and orderly patient care environment.
- Participation in quality improvement activities, including evaluating procedure results for technical quality and accuracy.
- Experience preparing and instructing patients pre- and post-procedure.
- Utilization of ultrasound contrast according to ASE guidelines and department policy.
Required Education:
- Completion of a two-year Allied Health degree.
- Successful completion of a 12-month CAAHEP-approved School of Ultrasound Technology, Cardiovascular Technology, or equivalent education.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or an AHA-approved equivalent.
- American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in cardiac ultrasound.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) from CCI within 12 months of start.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous healthcare-related training such as CNA, EMT, or PCA.
