Join a leading acute-care hospital as an RN in the Labor & Delivery/Postpartum unit. This facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center and a teaching hospital, equipped to provide exceptional care to a diverse patient population.
Unit Information:
- 9 Labor Beds, 3 ORs, 4 PACUs, 11 Antepartum, 4 Triage, 27 Postpartum
- Census: 2-14 L&D
Experience Required:
- Minimum of 2 years L&D RN experience
- 1 year OB Surg Tech experience
- First-time travelers are welcome
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- Laboring patients
- Antepartum patients
- Triage area, PACU, and OR
Patient Ratios:
- RN: Follow AWHONN Guidelines
- OB Tech: 2-3 per shift
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- RN: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring required
- BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) required - EKG competency exam as part of compliance
- Surg Tech: BLS, CST
Skills Required:
- Strong clinical assessment and L&D skills for a Level 1 Trauma Hospital
- IV insertion and care, central line management
- Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
Support within the Department:
- 2 OB Surg Techs per shift
- CNA duties include assisting with vital signs, glucose checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, and hourly rounding
- Unit secretary available 7a-11p; house wide call secretary 11p-7a
- Charge nurse may have patients
- RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist available 24/7
- OB Physicians available 24/7
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pump: Alaris
- Med dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: Phillips
- Unit specific equipment: VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Cardiac Telemetry monitoring, Portable vital signs monitors, PCA pain management, Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system, Glucommander, Suction machine
Orientation:
- 1 day orientation with educational modules
- 2 days departmental training
Scheduling:
- Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule)
- No call required
- Holiday Expectations: work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after + 12/24 or 12/25 + 12/31 or 1/1)
- RTO Requests: Manager approval
- Shift times: 12-hour shifts 7A-7P or 7P-7A
- Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
Other Notes:
- Scrub Color: RN- Navy; LPN- Ceil Blue; L&D surgical green with scrub exchange system
- Free parking available around campus or paid parking in parking decks
- Unit Culture: Busy but work as a team
