Join a leading acute-care hospital as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in Chapel Hill, NC. This contract position offers an opportunity to provide competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. You will report to the Nurse Manager/Director and be responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.

Essential Duties:

• Education: Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attend education programs based on identified learning needs. Utilize patient education materials relevant to the patient population. Assess readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers and evaluate their developmental level and factors affecting their ability to learn.
• Evaluation of Care: Identify expected patient outcomes and seek guidance as needed in the revision of the plan of care. Participate in discussions with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluating patient care and communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Implementation: Demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care. Perform bedside point of care testing as required and utilize healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care.
• Leadership: Develop goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations. Achieve goals and objectives within the identified time frame or renegotiate with the supervisor. Participate in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities.
• Patient Assessment: Recognize data from complex situations to determine priorities for care, including physical, psychosocial, education, and safety needs. Assess and anticipate discharge needs of individual patients and families.
• Planning: Collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care, utilizing available multidisciplinary resources. Address cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care and demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Research: Read journals that contain studies or articles applicable to practice and bring ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
