Oncology RN Job Details
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Oncology
- Location: Springfield, Illinois 62781 (Central Illinois healthcare jobs)
- Facility: Acute Care Hospital – Level I Trauma Center, Magnet Facility
- Unit: Oncology (24 beds; general, oncology, and hospice patients)
- Shift: Days, 12-hour shifts (07:15 – 18:45); 3x12 or 4x12 per week (flexible scheduling)
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 11/17/2025 – End: 2/16/2026)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Charting System: Cerner EMR
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free permit parking for travel nurses
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1890 - $1940 per week
Oncology Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or in application process)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Oncology RN experience in a hospital setting
- Chemo certification preferred (not required for this oncology nursing job)
- Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
- Proficient in chemotherapy administration (IV, oral, continuous infusion), body fluid handling post-chemotherapy, cytotoxic spill management, port access/care, central/PICC line care, blood product administration, IV therapy, and identifying abnormal lab values
- Ability to float within scope to other units as needed
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment overlaps
Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, compassionate care to adult and geriatric oncology patients
- Administer chemotherapy and manage side effects in accordance with oncology nursing best practices
- Monitor, assess, and document patient responses to cancer treatments
- Perform IV therapy, port access, and central/PICC line care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, pharmacy, social services, and rapid response
- Educate oncology patients and families on treatment plans, symptom management, and supportive care
- Float to other nursing units within scope as needed to support hospital operations
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation using Cerner EMR
