PCU RN Job Details

• Location: Hermitage, TN 37076 (Greater Nashville area)
• Healthcare Setting: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: November 17, 2025
• End Date: February 16, 2026
• Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling; every other weekend required
• Unit Size: 34 beds (Unit 630) / 25 beds (Unit 633)
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 to 1:6 (nights)
• Dress Code: Black scrubs

PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Tennessee or compact state)
• BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or step-down RN experience
• Proficient in EKG rhythm interpretation, cardiac drip, insulin drip, and heparin drip management
• Peripheral IV insertion and management skills
• Experience with BiPAPs, high-flow oxygen, multiple oxygen delivery systems, and post-cardiac cath care
• Peritoneal dialysis experience preferred
• Experience with tube feedings and NG/Dobhoff tubes
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills

PCU RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to PCU patients, including those requiring cardiac, insulin, and heparin drips
• Assist with and perform procedures such as peritoneal dialysis, thoracentesis, paracentesis, chest tube insertions, NG/Dobhoff tube insertions, and central line dressing changes
• Collaborate with wound care to troubleshoot wound vacs
• Document patient care using Meditech EMR
• Participate in hourly rounding (days) and every 2-hour rounding (nights) to ensure patient safety and satisfaction
• Float between PCU units or to medical-surgical floors as needed
• Maintain effective communication using AIDET and update communication boards
• Work collaboratively with patient care techs and unit secretaries to provide comprehensive clinical support
