Registered Nurse Job Details
- Location: Washington, DC 20010 (ideal for those seeking DC nursing jobs)
- Unit: Radiation Oncology (Medical Surgical Oncology)
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse Contract
- Start Date: January 20, 2026
- End Date: April 21, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day Shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (8-hour days)
- Hours per Week: 40
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1660 - $1780
- Patient Population: Adults (Daily census: 30-40)
- Charting System: Cerner EMR
- Flu Vaccine: Required (no exemptions)
- COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Washington, DC Registered Nurse (RN) license required at time of application
- Minimum 2 years of recent oncology nursing experience in a hospital or clinical setting
- At least 1 completed travel nursing assignment preferred (will consider candidates with less experience after screening)
- BLS certification required
- Proficiency with Cerner electronic medical records (EMR) system
- Two (2) supervisor references required
- Strong clinical skills in: care and management of ports, central line/implanted line care, acute tumor lysis syndrome (ATLS), anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage, sepsis, spinal cord compression, neutropenic precautions, tracheostomy care/management, external radiation therapy, radiation safety, and oncology side effect management
- Preferred: Prior experience in Radiation Oncology
Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to adult oncology patients receiving radiation therapy
- Manage ports, central lines, tracheostomies, and provide advanced clinical support for complex oncology cases
- Monitor and respond to acute oncologic emergencies, including tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, and sepsis
- Educate patients and families on cancer treatment plans, radiation therapy side effects, and self-care strategies
- Assist with new radiation consults, simulation education, and ongoing patient education
- Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, including social workers and nutritionists
- Perform office duties such as chart preparation, disability form completion, pharmacy coordination, and telephone triage
- Start IVs and provide care for adult patients with various cancer diagnoses (prostate, breast, colorectal, cervical/endometrial, head and neck, lung)
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation using Cerner EMR
