Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details
- Location: Charleston, SC 29407 (South Carolina nursing jobs)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: January 5, 2026 – End: April 6, 2026)
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM), Monday–Thursday (No Fridays, weekends, or holidays)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Setting: Six-bay, 23-hour observation unit within a surgery center PACU
- Staffing Model: Two RNs and one Patient Care Technician (PCT), with possible adjustment to one RN and one PCT on select nights
- Security: Overnight building security provided for staff safety
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact Registered Nurse (RN) license (SC license in hand preferred)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in cardiac stepdown or observation unit (2 years preferred)
- First-time travel nurses welcome
- Ability to float to other observation units as needed
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care to patients in a fast-paced cardiac stepdown/observation unit
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia, and operating room (OR) nurses in pre- and post-operative care
- Care for patients from diverse specialties including Orthopedics, Interventional Radiology, and GI procedures
- Perform airway assessments, conscious sedation, medication reconciliation, phlebotomy, IV insertion and maintenance, and lab value interpretation
- Maintain accurate patient documentation and communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Adapt to changing patient ratios (expected 1:3, maximum 1:6)
