ER RN Job Details – Newport News, VA
- Location: Newport News, VA 23602 (Virginia travel nursing jobs)
- Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse
- Shift: 12-hour nights (includes every other weekend and holiday)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/5/2026 – End: 4/4/2026)
- Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1680-$1800
- Unit Details: 20 beds (15 monitor beds, 5 fast track rooms), Primary Stroke Center, Cath Lab, staffed with experienced ED nurses and clinical support techs
- Patient Volume: 80-100 patients per day
- Interview: Not required
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (must reside outside 50-mile radius)
Emergency Room Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state (required for ER RN jobs)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Emergency Department nursing experience
- Proficient in triage and willing to serve as charge nurse as needed
- BLS, ACLS, CPI, PALS, and NIHSS certifications (may obtain prior to start if not current)
- Successful completion of dysrhythmia exam at orientation (study guide provided)
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity emergency care environment
- Strong interpersonal, clinical, and communication skills
- Physical ability to meet the demands of emergency nursing jobs
ER RN Responsibilities
- Deliver, coordinate, and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Emergency Department
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, develop and implement care plans, and evaluate outcomes
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately in accordance with clinical protocols
- Serve as a liaison for patient care coordination across hospital departments and clinical support teams
- Advocate for patient safety and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Manage the physical and emotional demands of emergency care, including triage, stabilization, and crisis intervention
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams and external agencies as needed
- Demonstrate leadership and clinical expertise as a charge nurse when required
- Maintain professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and effective communication at all times
