Oncology RN Job Details
- Job Title: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift
- Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Illinois healthcare jobs)
- Facility: Acute Care Hospital – Oncology Unit (24 beds)
- Shift: Night Shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
- Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts per week (three or four 12-hour shifts per week); every other weekend required
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $2000 - $2050 per week
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/5/2026 – End: 4/6/2026)
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
- EMR: Cerner charting system
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Oncology Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license (or in application process)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Oncology RN or Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC or OCN) preferred, but not required
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Willingness to float within scope as needed
- Ability to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric oncology patients in a 24-bed acute care unit
- Administer chemotherapy (IV push, oral, continuous infusion) and manage post-chemotherapy care
- Perform IV therapy, access/manage ports, central/PICC line care, and blood product administration
- Monitor and communicate abnormal lab values; manage side effects of cancer treatment
- Educate and support oncology patients and their families throughout the treatment process
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
- Float to other nursing units within scope as needed to support hospital staffing needs
- Maintain accurate documentation using the Cerner electronic medical record (EMR) system
