Travel Nursing Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
• Unit: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
• Start Date: January 12, 2026
• Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available
• Hours per Week: 36
• Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: At least 1 holiday per 13-week contract

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State)
• Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or Stepdown RN experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• EPIC charting experience
• Comfortable with 1:4–1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• Ability to float to similar units as needed

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult neurological patients (neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, epilepsy monitoring, medical overflow)
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to emergencies (dysrhythmia interpretation, Rapid Response, Code teams)
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and manage central/peripheral lines
• Deliver respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management)
• Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration)
• Implement isolation precautions and infection control protocols
• Document patient care using EPIC
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services)
• Educate and support patients and families
• Float to other units within clinical skillset as needed
