Travel Nursing Job Details
- Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
- Unit: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 52 weeks)
- Start Date: January 12, 2026
- Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available
- Hours per Week: 36
- Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: At least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State)
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or Stepdown RN experience
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- EPIC charting experience
- Comfortable with 1:4–1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Ability to float to similar units as needed
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult neurological patients (neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, epilepsy monitoring, medical overflow)
- Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to emergencies (dysrhythmia interpretation, Rapid Response, Code teams)
- Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and manage central/peripheral lines
- Deliver respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen administration, non-invasive airway management)
- Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration)
- Implement isolation precautions and infection control protocols
- Document patient care using EPIC
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services)
- Educate and support patients and families
- Float to other units within clinical skillset as needed
