Med/Surg Oncology RN Job Details
- Location: Wilmington, NC (28401) – North Carolina healthcare jobs
- Assignment Type: Travel Nursing Contract
- Unit: Medical Surgical / Oncology
- Start Date: January 12, 2026
- End Date: April 13, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend)
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Scrubs: Navy Blue and White
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient Med/Surg RN experience
- Active North Carolina or Compact RN license (required by start date)
- BLS certification (AHA required)
- ONC certification required; must be able to administer chemotherapy
- Clinical skills: colostomy care, port access, blood product administration, central/peripheral line management, PICC line management, heparin/insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- First-time travel nurses welcome
- Preferred: CPI certification, charge nurse experience, OCN
Med/Surg Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to medical-surgical patients with oncology diagnoses
- Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy (IV, PO, injection)
- Monitor and manage patients with conditions such as AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, pain, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and more
- Float to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Participate in storm/hurricane team response and disaster preparedness
- Attend monthly staff meetings and complete required modules and orientation
- Utilize PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR for medication management, documentation, and communication
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, PT, RT, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and more
