Key Job Details – Springfield, IL Oncology RN
- Location: Springfield, Illinois 62781
- Healthcare Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Oncology Unit (24 beds)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/26/2026 – End: 4/27/2026)
- Nursing Shift: Day shifts, 12 hours (7:15 AM – 6:45 PM)
- Schedule: 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts per week (flexible options)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Census: Average daily census of 24
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or eligibility
- Minimum 1 year of recent oncology nursing experience
- Chemo certification preferred (ONS/ONCC, OCN)
- Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
- Ability to float within hospital and to affiliate hospitals
- Willingness to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Strong IV therapy and infusion skills
Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, evidence-based nursing care to oncology and hospice patients
- Administer chemotherapy (IV push, oral, continuous infusion) and manage cytotoxic spills
- Monitor patients for side effects and abnormal lab values
- Perform IV therapy, including starting IVs, accessing ports, and central/PICC line care
- Administer blood products, coagulation factors, antifungals, and antivirals
- Educate and support patients and families throughout cancer treatment
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and social services
- Float to other nursing units as needed to support hospital operations
