Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Location: Pikeville, Kentucky (41501) – Kentucky nursing jobs
• Unit: 7A Medical Unit
• Assignment Type: Travel RN contract
• Start Date: January 26, 2026
• End Date: March 7, 2026
• Duration: 8-week travel assignment
• Shift: 7A – 7P (12-hour day shifts)
• Hours per Week: 48 hours (4x12 hour shifts)
• Guaranteed Hours: 48 per week
• Number of Positions: 2 Med/Surg RN openings

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Kentucky or compact state
• Associate’s degree in nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Current certifications: CPR, BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and EKG
• Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience (5 years preferred)
• Previous travel nursing experience required

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care to young adult, adult, and elderly patients using the nursing process
• Conduct comprehensive head-to-toe assessments and ongoing patient evaluations
• Monitor cardiac status, administer medications, and manage pain and sedation
• Provide care for chest tubes, central lines, and specialized IV drips
• Administer TPN/PPN, transfusion therapy, and IV therapy
• Accurately document patient histories, conditions, treatments, and responses
• Develop and update individualized care plans in collaboration with patients and families
• Educate patients and families based on identified learning needs
• Supervise and mentor healthcare staff, serving as a team leader and preceptor
• Assist physicians with procedures and respond promptly to changes in patient workload
• Participate in performance improvement activities and maintain professional growth
• Ensure proper functioning of patient care equipment and maintain adequate supplies
• Adhere to infection control, safety, and personnel guidelines
