PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Mechanicsville, VA 23116 (Richmond metro area)
• Healthcare Setting: Cardio-Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Shift: 12-hour nights; every other weekend and major holidays required
• Hours per Week: 36
• Assignment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 01/05/2026 – End: 04/04/2026)
• Patient Ratio: 1:3-4 (subject to staffing changes)
• Scrub Colors: Navy blue, white, or combination

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active RN license in Virginia or compact state (required for PCU nursing jobs)
• Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in a hospital or progressive care unit
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications (required for healthcare jobs)
• Must pass EKG exam at orientation (study guide provided)
• Experience with cardiac drips (excluding vasopressors), chest tubes, and bedside cardiac monitoring
• Ability to float to other hospital units as needed
• No local travelers (must reside outside a 50-mile radius of Mechanicsville, VA)
• Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments; develop individualized care plans
• Safely administer medications and treatments
• Monitor and titrate cardiac drips (excluding vasopressors)
• Care for patients with heart block, chronic cardiac conditions, and chest tubes
• Operate equipment including Alaris pumps, Hoyer lifts, BiPAP, Sara Stedy, PCA, GlucoStabilizer, and bedside cardiac monitors
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate patient care and education
• Advocate for patient safety, privacy, and quality care
• Float to other units to support stepdown and clinical care as needed
• Maintain professionalism and adhere to infection control and safety protocols
