Med/Surg RN Job Details – Springfield, IL

• Unit: Medical/Surgical (General Med-Surg & Overflow Stroke Unit)
• Shift: 3x12-Hour Nights (18:45 - 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 1/26/2026 – End: 4/27/2026)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Charting: Cerner EMR
• Scrub Color: Any solid color
• Parking: Free with permit

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license required
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience
• BLS (AHA or Red Cross) and NIHSS certifications required
• First-time travel nurses welcome
• Ability to float to other Medical/Surgical and similar units as needed
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Previous charge nurse, Level I Trauma, or community hospital experience preferred
• Must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment overlaps

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a fast-paced Med/Surg unit
• Manage diverse diagnoses including respiratory illness, infection, stroke, trauma, and surgical overflow
• Perform nursing procedures: dressing changes (including wound vacs), chest tube management, IV medication administration, central line care, foley catheter care, drain care, tube feedings, and wound care
• Interpret labs and diagnostic tests to support patient treatment plans
• Utilize advanced skills: cardiac monitoring, emergency response, telemetry, post-angiogram/post-MI care, IV insulin protocols, colostomy and feeding tube management, renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response teams
• Float to other units within scope as needed to support facility needs
• Maintain isolation precautions and adhere to infection control protocols
