  • Position: Travel PICU Registered Nurse (Pediatric Cardiac ICU / CVPICU)
  • Location: Charleston, South Carolina 29401 — Travel Nurse Charleston, SC
  • Assignment Type: Travel Contract (13 weeks)
  • Start Date: March 30, 2026
  • End Date: June 29, 2026
  • Unit: Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CHS Heart Center 3)
  • Shifts: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts/week — Night Shift Travel Nurse
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,020 - $2,130
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 or 1:2 based on acuity
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule; holiday rotation
  • Floating: May float to NICU, PICU, and Pediatric Stepdown as needed
  • Charting System: Epic (electronic medical record)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years recent Pediatric Cardiac ICU (CVPICU/PCICU) or pediatric critical care nursing experience required — Pediatric ICU nurse and Cardiac ICU RN preferred
  • Cardiovascular and pediatric ICU experience required; congenital heart disease and post-op cardiac surgery experience highly valued
  • Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) experience highly preferred; ECMO and CRRT experience a plus
  • First-time travel nurses welcome — Travel nurse opportunities available
  • Active South Carolina RN license or multistate/compact RN license (pending license considered with proof of application)
  • Required certifications: BLS and PALS (AHA only)
  • ACLS (AHA) preferred
  • VAD training required upon arrival to unit (unit-based training provided)

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert critical care nursing to pediatric patients with congenital heart disease and complex cardiac diagnoses
  • Care for patients post-cardiac surgery, including heart transplant and cardiac catheterization recovery
  • Manage advanced cardiac support and devices: ECMO, CRRT, Berlin Heart, HeartMate3, Impella, VADs
  • Perform hemodynamic monitoring, central/implanted line care, blood draws, chest tube management, and ventilator management
  • Administer and titrate IV vasopressors, antiarrhythmics, and continuous sedation per protocol
  • Collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team: respiratory therapy, pharmacy, perfusion, dietitians, social work, and cardiology teams
  • Float to NICU, PICU, and Pediatric Stepdown units as needed within scope of practice
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation in Epic and participate in quality initiatives
