Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

Location: Elkhart, Indiana (Zip: 46514) – Indiana nursing jobs
Healthcare Setting: Flexible Acuity Unit (Cardiac Stepdown)
Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse (RN)
Start Date: February 16, 2026
End Date: April 20, 2026
Contract Duration: 9 weeks
Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:30)
Hours per Week: 36 (Guaranteed)
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: 1 holiday per 13-week contract
Floating: May float to Med-Surg Level or affiliate hospitals based on census
Charting System: Cerner
Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license – Indiana or compact state (pending license accepted)
Minimum 1 year of recent Cardiac Stepdown or acute care RN experience
Certifications required: ACLS, BLS (American Heart Association)
NIHSS certification preferred
Previous travel nursing experience required
Must reside at least 50 miles from facility (no local candidates)
Professional conduct, reliability, and strong clinical skills

Cardiac Stepdown Nurse Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a Cardiac Stepdown/telemetry setting
Monitor and manage cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmias, and rapid response/code situations
Administer medications, manage IVs, central lines, PICC lines, and blood products
Provide care for patients with infectious diseases, pulmonary conditions, and acute withdrawal
Utilize advanced respiratory equipment: BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, and negative pressure rooms
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and social services
Document patient care using Cerner electronic health record system
Maintain strict adherence to isolation precautions and PPE protocols
Float to other nursing units as needed and participate in holiday and weekend coverage
