Job Requirements / Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year CVOR or OR nursing experience required (CVOR RN, scrub nurse experience preferred)
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — must meet state requirements for New York
• Proven ability to scrub and maintain sterile technique throughout procedures
• Preferred: Previous scrub nurse experience in vascular and cardiac surgery
• Preferred: Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) certification
• Strong organization, time-management, and critical-thinking skills in high-acuity surgical settings
• Ability to complete standard onboarding: background check, drug screen, and competency assessments

Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality perioperative nursing care for cardiac surgery cases in the CVOR
• Perform scrub nurse duties: set up sterile field, instruments, supplies, and specialty cardiovascular equipment
• Assist surgeons, interventional radiologists, and advanced practice providers during complex cardiac and vascular procedures
• Maintain sterility and patient safety before, during, and after procedures in the Cardiothoracic OR
• Provide emotional support and clear communication to patients and families during the perioperative period
• Collaborate with circulating nurses and multidisciplinary teams to monitor vitals, assess skin integrity, and coordinate care
• Document surgical details and operative notes accurately in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR)
• Perform postoperative counts (needle, sponge, instrument) per hospital policy
• Participate in the on-call rotation and respond within the required 30-minute timeframe when activated
