Travel Psych RN opportunity in Lynchburg, Virginia (24503) on an Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. This 13-week night-shift assignment is ideal for an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) with charge nurse experience who thrives in behavioral health nursing, therapeutic communication, and maintaining a safe milieu for adult patients.
Job Details (Travel Nursing)
- Location: Lynchburg, VA 24503 — a welcoming community in Central Virginia known for its scenic outdoor spaces, local dining, and a relaxed pace that makes it a great place to live and work during your assignment.
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1850–$1950/week
- Unit/Setting: Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit (Behavioral Health)
- Start Date: 03/23/2026 (orientation held every other Monday)
- End Date: 06/20/2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Schedule Notes: Scheduled every 2–3 weekends; no call
- Hours: 36 hours/week
- EMR: Cerner
- Floating: No
Job Requirements (Psych RN)
- Experience: Minimum 2 years experience (per submission requirements)
- Travel Experience: Prior travel nurse assignment experience required
- Charge Nurse Experience: Required
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Certifications: BLS required; CPI required (CPI may be obtained on-site if not currently active)
- Background/Compliance: Additional Virginia psych background requirement upon start; credentialing must be completed and submitted 1 week prior to start
- Documentation: Complete work history, explanation of any gaps over 90 days, and skills checklist
Responsibilities (Behavioral Health Nursing)
- Provide therapeutic, patient-centered nursing care for adult behavioral health patients in an inpatient psychiatric setting
- Complete comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments, develop/update nursing care plans, and document accurately in Cerner EMR
- Maintain a safe milieu using de-escalation, crisis intervention, therapeutic communication, and close observation practices
- Administer medications, monitor for therapeutic response and adverse effects, and follow facility policies for medication safety
- Function in a charge RN capacity as needed, supporting staffing flow, unit coordination, and clinical decision-making
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team (psychiatry, social work, therapy, nursing) to support treatment planning, patient education, and discharge readiness
- Support a positive learning environment by working effectively with students and onboarding/new team members
