- Shift: Night Shift, 12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:30)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: Corrections Health Unit – Med/Surg Telemetry (may float to Oncology Med/Surg units)
- Orientation: 72 hours
- Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
- Patient Ratios: 1:4–5 (Med/Surg), 1:3 (PCU)
- Charting: Epic EMR experience required
- Medication System: Pyxis
- Weekend Shifts: Vary based on unit needs
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience; at least 1 year of current Med/Surg Telemetry specialty experience within the last 3 years
- License: Active RN license (Ohio or Nurse Licensure Compact [NLC] recognized at submission)
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Education: Graduate of an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Charting: Proven Epic EMR experience; familiarity with Pyxis medication systems preferred
- References: 2 professional references required (one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership; Charge RN acceptable for second reference)
- Other: Must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly upon contract signing; ability to work in a secure/corrections health environment required
- Preferred: Oncology med-surg experience is a plus
- Flu Vaccine: Required (medical exemptions only)
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing and acute care for adult and geriatric patients, including those with oncology diagnoses and complex comorbidities
- Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms, manage dysrhythmias, and respond to rapid response/code team activations
- Administer and monitor IV therapies, blood products, PCA, insulin drips, and medication protocols per policy (cardiac drips without titration, heparin protocols, chemotherapy per facility policy)
- Perform central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, phlebotomy, and IV starts
- Provide respiratory support: CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy care, oxygen devices, and ABG interpretation
- Manage feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound care, and uphold infection control/isolation protocols
- Float to other Oncology Med/Surg units within the James Cancer Tower as needed
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, radiology, social services, rapid response, transport, and interpretation services
- Maintain safety and professionalism in a locked corrections health unit; coordinate patient movement and care with Corrections Officers
