Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Night Shift in Topeka, KS (66606). 13-week travel nursing contract for experienced Med/Surg RNs with an active Kansas RN or Compact RN license. Night shift; 12-hour shifts; adult and geriatric patient care; BLS required; Epic experience preferred.

  • Shift: Night shift; 12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36 hours per week (option for 48 hours per week available)
  • Unit: Med/Surg – Floor 7 (medical-surgical unit, adult & geriatric)
  • Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics
  • Unit Snapshot: ~24 daily census; 31 rooms; 29 beds; stable remote telemetry monitored patients
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,460 – $1,540 (travel nurse pay range)

Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience preferred (Med-Surg nursing)
  • Travel Experience: Previous travel nursing experience required
  • License: Active Kansas RN license or Compact RN license required at time of submission
  • Certifications: BLS required; NIHSS preferred
  • Charting: Epic experience preferred (electronic medical record experience)
  • Patient Ratios: 5–6 patients per nurse
  • Clinical Skills: Telemetry monitoring, colostomy/ileostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis care, renal failure management, port access/management, blood product administration, central/peripheral line care, PICC management, IV starts, heparin/insulin administration, CVA care, chest tube management, BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, wound care/VAC, isolation precautions
  • Floating: Required to float to like units within scope as needed
  • Schedule: Some weekends required (variable schedule)
  • Preferred: Previous charge nurse experience

Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric Med/Surg patients during night shifts (med-surg RN responsibilities)
  • Perform comprehensive assessments, monitor patient status, and escalate changes per protocol
  • Administer medications and treatments and manage complex lines and devices within RN scope of practice
  • Provide telemetry monitoring and intervene appropriately for cardiac rhythm changes (telemetry RN)
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, RT, pharmacy, and social services to coordinate patient care
  • Document accurately and efficiently in Epic to ensure continuity of care and clear communication
  • Float to similar units as needed and adapt to changing patient needs and unit workflows
  • Support a positive and safe patient environment, adhering to infection control and isolation protocols
