  • Position: PICU Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiac ICU / Pediatric Cardiac ICU Nurse
  • Location: Omaha, NE 68114 (Omaha nursing jobs, Nebraska travel nurse)
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (April 13, 2026 – July 13, 2026)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 x 12-hour shifts (19:00 – 07:00)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,250 – $2,370 (competitive travel nurse pay)
  • Unit: Cardiac ICU (CVPICU), 32 beds, average daily census 21
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Weekend Coverage: 3 out of 6 weekends per contract
  • Orientation: 36 hours
  • Float Requirement: May float to PICU, NICU, and Med/Surg as needed

Qualifications & Certifications (PICU / Cardiac ICU)

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years recent pediatric cardiac ICU and PICU experience required
  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska or compact state
  • Required Certifications: PALS, ACLS, BLS
  • Preferred Certification: CCRN (pediatric critical care preferred)
  • Flu Vaccine: Required (medical/religious exemptions only)

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • ECMO exposure or experience; pediatric ECMO nursing skills highly valued
  • Experience with invasive cardiac monitoring (CVP, arterial lines, RA pressures) and advanced hemodynamic monitoring
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, pediatric ACLS protocols
  • Post cardiac surgery care including open-heart and single-ventricle physiology
  • Heart transplant and heart failure pediatric patient care experience
  • Administration of blood products, central/PICC line management, IV vasopressors, and sedation infusions
  • Pediatric dosage calculations, ventilator management, procedural sedation, chest tube management, airway care, and Broselow system use
  • Comfortable with CRRT, advanced life support devices, and interdisciplinary critical care workflows

Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert, compassionate pediatric cardiac critical care for neonates, infants, and children
  • Manage advanced monitoring and life-support equipment (ECMO, CRRT, ventilators, arterial lines)
  • Administer and titrate cardiac medications, vasopressors, and sedation infusions safely
  • Interpret pediatric dysrhythmias and respond to hemodynamic instability
  • Provide post-operative care for pediatric cardiac surgery patients and support heart transplant care pathways
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy, and social services
  • Float to PICU, NICU, or Med/Surg as operational needs require
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation and communicate effectively with families and the care team
