- Position: Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical (Med/Surg RN / Travel Nurse)
- Location: Wilmington, NC 28401 — Wilmington nursing jobs, Coastal North Carolina travel RN
- Assignment Type: On-Site, Travel Contract
- Start Date: April 13, 2026
- End Date: July 13, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift: 12 Hour Nights (18:45 – 07:15)
- Estimated Weekly Pay Range: $1,710 – $1,800 (competitive pay for travel nurses)
- Unit: Medical Surgical (primarily Med/Surg patients with oncology history)
- Target Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6 (may vary with census)
- Daily Census: 42
- Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend required
- Float Requirement: Required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Call Requirement: Required if called off on a prescheduled shift
- Scrubs: Navy Blue and White
- Systems: Epic EMR, Pyxis, SBAR (experience with Epic preferred)
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent inpatient RN experience (Med/Surg required). First-time travelers welcome — great travel nurse job for new travelers.
- License: Active North Carolina RN license or Compact RN license (must be in hand by start date)
- Certifications: BLS (AHA required); Chemo (ONS/ONCC) competency required prior to start
- Clinical Skills: Med/Surg nursing, colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral/PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, wound care/wound VAC
- Testing: Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Preferred: CPI, charge nurse experience, OCN certification (oncology nursing)
Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical-surgical and oncology diagnoses
- Administer chemotherapy/biotherapy (IV, PO, injection) per facility policy (ONS/ONCC chemo competency required)
- Monitor and manage patients with diagnoses such as AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, ARF, encephalopathy, diabetic foot ulcers, and complex post-op care
- Document clinical care accurately using Epic EMR and utilize Pyxis for medication administration
- Float to similar units and alternate inpatient care locations as needed, including inpatient holding in the ED
- Participate in monthly staff meetings, required trainings, and performance improvement initiatives
- Be prepared to serve on a Storm Team/Hurricane Team in the event of a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV team, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, and case management
