- Position: Travel RN / Med/Surg RN (Observation Unit)
- Assignment Type: Travel Contract (Travel Nurse opportunity)
- Start Date: April 13, 2026
- End Date: July 13, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift Duration: 12 Hour Nights
- Shift: 12-hour nights (19:00–07:00), must be available for weekends and holidays
- Hours per Week: 36 (0.9 FTE)
- Unit: Observation Unit (10 beds, adult patients) — Observation Unit RN / Med/Surg RN role
- Electronic Health Record: Cerner (Cerner EHR experience preferred)
- Dress Code: Galaxy blue scrubs
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,020–$2,130/week
Job Requirements (Qualifications)
- Active RN license (Michigan RN or compact state eligibility preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg nursing experience as a Med/Surg RN or Observation Unit RN
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- NIH Stroke Scale and Tele/ECG competency required
- Ability to float to Medical, Cardiac, and Neuro-Ortho units as needed
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills for acute observation and rapid disposition
- Preferred: Telemetry experience; TNCC and ENPC certifications
Key Responsibilities
- Perform timely and comprehensive initial assessments and frequent reassessments to monitor patient progress in the Observation Unit
- Implement and adjust Med/Surg care plans based on provider orders, patient condition changes, and clinical judgment
- Administer medications, treatments, IV therapies, and diagnostic prep per protocol with accuracy and safety
- Monitor vital signs, labs, and diagnostic results, promptly reporting changes and abnormal findings to the care team
- Provide clear patient education on diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, and discharge instructions to support safe transitions of care
- Coordinate care with physicians, case management, and multidisciplinary teams to support timely disposition and throughput
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in Cerner EHR to ensure continuity of care
- Facilitate efficient admission, transfer, and discharge workflows in a high-volume Observation Unit
- Respond to urgent situations and perform emergency interventions within scope of practice
- Maintain compliance with infection control standards, patient safety protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements
- Participate in performance improvement activities to enhance patient experience, throughput, and clinical outcomes
