Oncology RN (travel nurse) opportunity: 16-week assignment on the Acute Leukemia & Hematology unit in Columbus, Ohio. Join a collaborative hematology oncology team caring for adults and geriatrics with newly diagnosed acute leukemia. Job Details
- Location: 460 W 10th Ave, Columbus, OH 43210 (Franklin County) – Located in the heart of Columbus, this facility offers access to vibrant city life, top healthcare resources, and a welcoming community.
- Unit: 15 East – Acute Leukemia and Hematology (hematology oncology)
- Assignment Type: Travel nurse (16-week travel assignment)
- Start / End Dates: April 6, 2026 – July 27, 2026
- Shift: 12-hour nights, 19:00–07:30; 3 shifts/week (36 hours/week)
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,160 – $2,270 per week (based on experience and qualifications)
- Orientation: 1 week dayshift + 36 hours on-unit with preceptor
- Charting / EMR: EPIC (electronic medical record)
- Staffing Ratios: Goal 1:4, may be up to 1:5
- Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients, primarily acute leukemia
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling requests accommodated prior to final schedule; weekend coverage variable
Required Qualifications (Oncology Nursing Jobs)
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience; at least 1 year of recent (within 3 years) oncology specialty experience
- Active RN license (compact multistate or Ohio RN license required at submission)
- ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification (required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- Travel nursing experience required; oncology travel nurse experience strongly preferred
- Education from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited nursing program
- Ability to float to other MedSurg Oncology units as needed
- Strong infection prevention, patient safety, and central line care skills
- Two professional references (one must be from a manager, director, or formal clinical leader)
- NIHSS certification preferred
Key Responsibilities (Oncology RN / Hematology Nurse)
- Provide comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care to adults and geriatric patients with acute leukemia and hematologic conditions
- Administer chemotherapy and biotherapy safely; monitor for adverse effects and manage reactions per protocol
- Administer and monitor blood products and manage central lines / PICC lines with strict infection control
- Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, feeding tube management, and accurate medication administration
- Interpret and monitor telemetry and respond to rapid response and emergency situations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including pharmacy, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, and social services to optimize patient outcomes
- Document care thoroughly and accurately in EPIC; maintain clear communication during shift handoffs
- Adhere to patient falls prevention, infection prevention, and safety protocols
- Participate in self-scheduling and adapt to variable weekend/holiday coverage as required
- Support a positive unit culture and uphold high standards of clinical excellence and compassionate care
